PHP Developer (Washington DC)

About the role

Cogent Communications is seeking a PHP Developer to join its Washington DC team. The role focuses on designing, developing, and maintaining in‑house business applications that support Corporate Sales, Operations, Finance and other departments. You will work under a technical lead, collaborating with stakeholders to gather requirements, build prototypes and deliver production‑ready software.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse technology gaps and develop software solutions to address them.
• Define sprint goals with project leads and deliver associated features.
• Design, code, test and debug new PHP applications and enhancements to existing systems.
• Maintain and improve existing PHP and Java applications, including bug fixes and performance tuning.
• Integrate platforms using APIs and ensure seamless data flow.
• Create technical documentation and user guides for developed software.

Required profile

• 3+ years of professional PHP web development experience.
• 2+ years of hands‑on experience with the Laravel framework.
• 2+ years of full‑time experience with MySQL and/or MSSQL databases.
• Proficiency in HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
• Experience across all phases of the software development life‑cycle and object‑oriented analysis.
