About the role
The University of Miami's UHealth Laboratories Department is seeking a Supervisor to lead daily phlebotomy operations. This position oversees specimen collection, processing, and staff performance to ensure high‑quality laboratory services.
Key responsibilities
- Supervise patient phlebotomy according to the procedure manual.
- Train, evaluate, and document performance of phlebotomy staff.
- Maintain specimen integrity through proper collection, handling, and processing.
- Enforce departmental policies, participate in performance‑improvement initiatives, and ensure compliance with university regulations.
- Conduct inpatient/CTYU phlebotomy rounds and perform venipuncture or fingerstick collections.
- Manage inventory, keep the laboratory organized, and support hardware maintenance.
- Provide backup when specimen transport or computer systems are down.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
- Minimum five years of relevant experience.
- Phlebotomist certification and BLS certification (AHA).
Required skills
- Phlebotomy techniques (venipuncture, fingerstick).
- Specimen collection and handling.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
