Phlebotomist 3 – Full‑time Laboratory Position

About the role

The University of Miami Health System is seeking a full‑time Phlebotomist 3 to join UHealth Laboratories in Miami. The role involves drawing and collecting blood samples, verifying patient records, and preparing specimens for laboratory analysis while providing compassionate patient care.

Key responsibilities

• Perform patient phlebotomy following the approved technique and patient identification procedures.
• Prioritize hematology and oncology specimens and manage pre‑accession labeling and organization.
• Maintain inventory levels, rotate stock, and ensure proper storage of supplies.
• Prepare samples for shipping, handle biohazard containers, and dispose of waste according to SOPs.
• Assist with complex specimen collection issues, including special handling, add‑on requests, and recollections.
• Provide guidance and training to phlebotomy staff on identification, labeling, and workflow compliance.
• Support Blood Bank and specialty collections such as Type and Screen, transplant‑related specimens, and timed draws.
• Participate in quality assurance, process improvement, and safety initiatives.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent with relevant experience.
• Minimum 3 years of phlebotomy experience.
• Current certification in Phlebotomy.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Required skills

• Phlebotomy techniques and specimen collection.
• Use of Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) for accessioning and reporting.
• Proficiency with standard office software and medical record applications.
