Phlebotomist 2 – Full‑time at UHealth Labs

About the role

The University of Miami’s UHealth Laboratories/Pathology Department is seeking a full‑time Phlebotomist 2 to draw and collect blood samples, verify patient records, and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis. The role supports hematology, oncology, and other clinical services while ensuring patient safety and accurate data entry.

Key responsibilities

• Perform patient phlebotomy following the department’s procedure manual.
• Prioritize hematology and oncology patient specimens.
• Pre‑accession specimens, match orders, and label samples for the day’s workflow.
• Verify patient identification and maintain accurate documentation.
• Answer queries and resolve issues related to test requisitions, specimen requirements, and result reporting.
• Maintain inventory levels, rotate stock, and manage biohazard containers.
• Process cancellations, credits, and additions of test procedures.
• Assist supervisor with statistical reporting and generate routine reports.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent; relevant experience, certification, or license.
• Minimum of 2 years of phlebotomy or related clinical experience.
• Applicable phlebotomy certification as required by state regulations.
• Ability to learn new procedures, technologies, and adapt to changing priorities.

Required skills

• Phlebotomy techniques and specimen collection.
• Specimen accessioning and labeling.
• Use of laboratory information systems and hospital computer applications.
