Phlebotomist 1 – UHealth Labs Transition

About the role

The Phlebotomist 1 is responsible for drawing blood samples, verifying patient records, and preparing specimens for laboratory analysis within the UHealth Labs transition. The role involves direct patient interaction, vital sign collection, and use of laboratory and hospital information systems.

Key responsibilities

• Perform patient phlebotomy following the procedures outlined in the phlebotomy manual.
• Prioritize processing of hematology and oncology patient specimens.
• Pre‑accession specimens, match and organize daily orders and labels.
• Follow strict patient identification protocols.
• Answer questions and resolve issues related to test requisitions, specimen requirements, and result reporting.
• Maintain adequate inventory levels and rotate stock according to protocol.
• Keep required files and logs neat, accurate, and up‑to‑date.
• Assist supervisors in recording statistics and generating reports.
• Process cancellations, credits, and additions of test procedures.
• Adhere to university and unit policies, safeguarding assets.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 1 year of relevant phlebotomy experience.
• Phlebotomist Certification.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
• Florida HIV/AIDS Healthcare Professional Continuing Education Certificate.
