PhD Summer Intern (2028 Graduates)

About the role

NERA, an economic consultancy group of experts working with law firms, corporations and regulators, is hiring PhD Summer Interns for 2028 graduates. Positions are open in many offices, including New York City, San Francisco, Washington, DC and White Plains, NY. Interns support Consultants and Partners and may provide research, analysis and advice to clients in one or more practice areas.

Key responsibilities

• Collect market, industry, company and competitor information for casework
• Build and use spreadsheet models and apply econometric analysis to economic and financial data
• Review, summarize and analyze industry trends
• Create trial exhibits and draft memos, expert reports and presentation materials
• Take part in client and team meetings and conference calls

Required profile

• Ph.D. candidate in economics, statistics, finance or a related field, with training in econometrics and quantitative methods
• Exceptional analytic skills and strong academic record
• Detail-oriented, critical thinker with excellent oral and written communication skills and fluency in English
• Eligible to work in the United States; international candidates who can independently obtain OPT/CPT are considered
• Commitment of 8-10 consecutive weeks between June and August

Required skills

• Use of statistical software and programming languages is essential for some positions
• Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and online research
• Experience with SAS, Python, R and Stata is a plus
