Pharmacy Clerk

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Pharmacy Clerk in Kearney, Iowa, in its Pharmacy department. The role supports the day-to-day operation of the pharmacy with care and professionalism, assisting customers, stocking and ordering supplies, handling cash transactions and keeping the pharmacy running smoothly. It is an hourly position.

Key responsibilities

• Greet customers warmly, learn their names and answer the telephone, including taking refill orders
• Gather patient information needed to prepare prescriptions and review unpicked-up prescriptions
• Stock received products and supplies, mark stickers and keep supplies well stocked
• Order product and supplies at the department manager's request, review invoices and log them
• Complete cash transactions accurately and prepare paperwork for delivery orders and mail-outs
• Coordinate nursing home medicines and administer vaccines where allowed by law and certified
• Clean the pharmacy, empty garbage and maintain confidentiality of patients' private medical information
• Work as a team, assist in other store areas as needed and follow Hy-Vee policies and dress standards

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent experience
• Over six months to one year of similar or related experience preferred
• Vaccination certification required if administering vaccines
• Ability to stand and walk frequently, including at the counter, and to count, pour, package and label medications under pharmacist supervision
• Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and sharps, and to hazardous drugs during compounding

Required skills

• Accurate math with whole numbers
• Attention to detail and discretion with confidential patient information
• Ability to follow written, verbal or diagrammatic instructions

Employment is contingent on a successful pre-employment drug screen. The role is fast-paced, with occasional exposure to hazardous chemicals or solvents during compounding.
