Performance Engineering Intern

About the role

Amentum is recruiting a Performance Engineering Intern for the COSMOS contract, NASA's next-generation mission operations contract. The intern works in a dynamic team to measure and evaluate system performance characteristics, supporting the NASA customer, systems engineers and software engineers. The role may involve real-time mission operations during second or third shift, nights and weekends, and the intern must be able to obtain a NASA PIV badge.

Key responsibilities

• Help with code refactoring, adopting version control and setting up a test/development location for the team
• Create new automation tools and scripts, including scripts to automate the first look analysis of the software acceptance review package
• Work on deep-dive analysis steps and help review and update team documentation
• Collect raw resource utilization data from workstations, servers and networks in development, integration and production environments
• Develop automation scripts for handling big data and maintain scripts and processes to improve system performance
• Learn performance diagnostics and possibly handle simpler incident reports
• Be exposed to the NASA customer, systems engineers, users and software engineers

Required profile

• Working towards a Bachelor's or Master's degree; Computer Science, Engineering, IT, MIS, Math or a related field preferred
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including possible night and weekend shifts
• Strong initiative, teamwork, attention to detail, organization and ability to meet deadlines
• Clear communication of technical performance data and metrics

Required skills

• Familiarity with scripting and/or automation, and with the SDLC
• Coding skills in Python, C++, Linux and Windows
• Desired: data visualization (Power BI), Docker/Podman, Office 365, Windows administration, Linux, Python, data mining, networking (Wireshark)
