Per Diem Staff Physician – Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences

About the role

The University of Miami seeks a Per Diem Staff Physician specializing in Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences to provide high‑quality medical care to patients at Jackson Behavioral Health Hospital. This position involves delivering comprehensive treatment plans, performing assessments, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive medical treatment plans addressing biological, psychological, and sociocultural factors.
• Conduct respectful physical assessments and prescribe appropriate medications.
• Gather accurate patient information through record review and interviews with patients, families, and other health professionals.
• Report to the responsible physician, comply with policy co‑signatures, and document all care in the medical record.
• Identify and report hazardous conditions, equipment issues, and QA incidents according to department guidelines.
• Participate in continuing education to maintain and expand clinical expertise.
• Make evidence‑based clinical decisions while respecting patient preferences and confidentiality.
• Adhere to university policies, safeguard assets, and uphold core values.

Required profile

• MD degree in a relevant medical field.
• Board certification in Psychiatry or a related specialty.
• Minimum of three years of clinical experience.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently or within a team.
• Capacity to prioritize workload under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
• Willingness to work evenings, nights, and weekends as needed.
