Per Diem Staff Physician – General Internal Medicine

About the role

The University of Miami Health System is seeking a board‑certified or board‑eligible Internal Medicine physician to provide outpatient primary care on a per‑diem basis. This flexible, non‑continuous position focuses on adult patients (18+ years) and involves preventive care, chronic disease management, and treatment of acute, non‑emergent conditions.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive, patient‑centered primary care to adult patients in an outpatient clinic.
• Perform health screenings, physical examinations, and manage acute and chronic medical conditions.
• Develop individualized treatment plans and coordinate care with specialists.
• Order and interpret laboratory, imaging, and other diagnostic tests.
• Document visits accurately using the EMR system.
• Educate patients on preventive health, self‑management, and chronic disease care.
• Collaborate with nurses, medical assistants, care coordinators, and administrative staff.
• Provide coverage during provider absences, high‑volume periods, or scheduled clinic days.

Required profile

• MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
• Completion of an ACGME‑accredited Internal Medicine residency.
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine.
• Valid, unrestricted Florida medical license.
• Current DEA registration and, if applicable, state‑controlled substance license.
• Commitment to equitable, patient‑centered care.
• Strong communication and organizational abilities.

Required skills

• Experience with EMR systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner).
