Per Diem Medical Technologist – UHealth Labs

About the role

The University of Miami/UHealth Laboratories is seeking a Per Diem Medical Technologist to perform microbiological, molecular biological, and immunological testing on patient specimens. This part‑time position supports quality assurance, instrument maintenance, and collaboration with clinical investigators.

Key responsibilities

• Verify specimen identification against physician orders and prepare specimens safely.
• Perform and interpret microbiological, molecular, and immunological tests, referring results to pathologists.
• Calibrate laboratory equipment, order supplies, and maintain inventory.
• Identify test inconsistencies, take corrective actions, and assist coworkers in problem resolution.
• Conduct quality‑control tests and record data according to procedures.
• Help orient and train new laboratory staff on techniques and operations.
• Follow university and unit policies, safeguarding assets.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field.
• Minimum 2 years of laboratory experience.
• Valid State of Florida Medical Technologist license.
• Ability to learn new procedures, technologies, and adapt to changing priorities.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
