Peer Support Specialist

About the role

The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Pediatrics seeks a full‑time Peer Support Specialist to provide advocacy, training, and recovery‑focused support to families and individuals in Miami, FL.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as a family/individual advocate and role model, facilitating individual and group support sessions.
• Partner with case managers to link families to behavioral health, child welfare, and community resources.
• Document one‑to‑one sessions, telephone calls, and visits, and participate in case conferences.
• Promote self‑advocacy, self‑efficacy, and recovery planning while respecting cultural and linguistic needs.

Required profile

• High school diploma (Bachelor’s preferred) with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
• Peer Support Specialist certification or willingness to obtain it within the first year.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.

Required skills

• Proficiency with standard office software and computer applications.
• Understanding of HIPAA, professional ethics, individual rights, and confidentiality.
