Payroll & Leave Administrator

About the role

The Payroll & Leave Administrator supports Texas A&M University‑Texarkana by managing bi‑weekly payroll processing, leave administration, and related compliance activities for faculty, staff, and students.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as primary liaison between Texas A&M University‑Texarkana and the main campus for shared payroll and tax compliance services.
• Prompt HR contacts to review and approve payroll reports, ensuring timely time‑entry approvals.
• Run, analyze, and correct bi‑weekly and monthly payroll and leave reports, including Teacher Retirement System filings.
• Enter Payroll Cost Transfers and reconcile payroll accounts with Accounting.
• Administer compensation changes, payroll deductions, and special exemptions such as Border City and student FICA.
• Provide training to managers on time‑entry, payroll schedules, and reporting.
• Process manual checks, promote direct deposit, and maintain payroll forms and web pages.
• Oversee FMLA, ADA, sick‑leave pool, and other leave programs, and conduct employment verifications.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
• At least two years of payroll administration experience; preferred two‑plus years with advanced systems.
• Strong analytical, communication, and organizational abilities.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and work cooperatively across departments.

Required skills

• Workday payroll/HR platform.
• Advanced Excel and forms development.
• Automated Payroll/Leave/Human Capital Management systems.
• Knowledge of Texas state payroll, tax, and classification rules.
• Familiarity with FMLA, FLSA, and ADA regulations.
