Payroll & HR Assistant

About the role

Champion Home Builders is seeking a detail‑oriented Payroll & HR Assistant to support its Athens, Texas operations. In this hands‑on position you will ensure accurate payroll processing while providing essential HR support to employees and managers.

Key responsibilities

• Process weekly payroll, compile data, calculate wages, and enter information into the payroll system.
• Maintain payroll records, including deductions, benefits, tax information, and leave balances.
• Generate payroll reports, assist with audits, issue paychecks and resolve discrepancies.
• Maintain and update employee records, manage benefits enrollment, and support open enrollment periods.
• Assist with recruiting, onboarding, and ensure new‑hire paperwork is complete and compliant.
• Track PTO, vacation accruals, and manage workers’ compensation reporting.
• Serve as a resource for employee HR‑related questions and provide guidance as needed.

Required profile

• 2‑3 years of experience in payroll and/or human resources.
• Strong attention to detail, high accuracy, and ability to handle confidential information.
• Ability to work independently in a fast‑paced, manufacturing environment.
• Excellent attendance record and a proactive work ethic.

Required skills

• Microsoft Excel (basic formulas and functions).
• Microsoft Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
• Experience with payroll systems such as UKG or UltiPro.
