Patient Safety Observer – Full-Time

About the role

The University of Miami Hospital is seeking a full‑time Patient Safety Observer to supervise patients who are at risk of injury or elopement. The role involves collaborating with the interdisciplinary team and promptly reporting any unsafe behavior to nursing staff.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare patient rooms for admission and orient patients to their environment.
• Assist patients with dressing, bathing, toileting, feeding, and mobility.
• Monitor patients for changes in condition or behavior and report immediately to nursing staff.
• Support discharge by helping patients pack belongings and transport them to the lobby.
• Follow infection control, isolation techniques, and universal precautions.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Minimum one year of relevant patient care experience.
• Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as needed.
• Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to university values.
