Patient Navigator – Full-Time

About the role

The University of Miami’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute is seeking a full‑time Patient Navigator to support patients in accessing and coordinating their eye care services. The role involves evaluating patient needs, removing barriers to care, and ensuring smooth communication between patients and providers.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct patient evaluations to gather information for treatment planning.
• Assist patients in accessing insurance and eligible social service programs.
• Provide appointment reminders and act as a liaison between patients and clinicians.
• Identify and resolve real or perceived barriers to care.
• Educate and counsel patients on health‑related and life‑situational issues.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of community health and welfare resources.
• Handle patient communications, request medical records, and manage pathology specimens.
• Prepare, track, and file medical records ensuring completeness and confidentiality.
• Provide administrative support such as answering phones, copying, faxing, emailing, and mailing documents.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent; relevant experience, certification, or license accepted.
• Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in patient navigation or a related field.
• Demonstrated learning agility, teamwork, and strong written and verbal communication skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency with office software and standard computer applications.
