Patient Care Technician - Medical Surgical (Night Shift)

About the role

UChicago Medicine AdventHealth is hiring a full-time Patient Care Technician for its medical surgical unit in Glendale Heights, Illinois. The schedule is 36 hours per week on nights (6:30pm to 7:00am) with rotating weekends and holidays, and there is a sign-on bonus of up to $5,000.

Key responsibilities

• Perform treatments according to policy and procedure, giving patient care suited to age, mobility, acuity and culture
• Respond appropriately in clinical emergencies
• Follow isolation guidelines, use protective equipment correctly, wash hands and enforce safety regulations
• Communicate effectively with patients, families and the healthcare team
• Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients and staff
• Assist in delivering patient care as a team member under the direction of a registered nurse
• Document and report procedures, help obtain a nursing history and report abnormalities to the registered nurse
• Participate in practice improvements and quality initiatives, and upgrade skills continuously

Required profile

• High school graduate or equivalent (required)
• 1+ years of applicable PCT experience preferred
• Previous bedside patient care in an acute care unit, unit secretary, monitor technician or equivalent medical experience preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification required
• Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) or Certified Patient Care Technician/Assistant (CPCT/A) or Emergency Medical Tech (EMT) certification required
