Patient Access Specialist – On‑Site (UHealth)

About the role

The University of Miami/UHealth Department is seeking a full‑time Patient Access Specialist to join its on‑site team in Miami. This role supports front‑end revenue cycle and clinic operations, ensuring a smooth patient experience from pre‑arrival through post‑discharge.

Key responsibilities

• Obtain, confirm, and enter demographic, financial, and clinical information required for financial clearance of scheduled patient accounts.
• Contact patients, families, or physicians’ offices to gather missing insurance details.
• Verify insurance eligibility, notify patients and referring physicians of any coverage issues.
• Collaborate with scheduling departments to identify add‑on patients and secure necessary authorizations, pre‑certifications, and referrals.
• Inform patients of financial liabilities before service dates and collect payments.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation in the system of record.
• Serve as a lead resource for lower‑level patient services staff and recommend process improvements.
• Respond to technical inquiries from patients, physicians, and employees via phone, email, fax, or web messages.

Required profile

• Experience in patient access, front‑end revenue cycle, or similar healthcare administrative functions.
• Ability to work independently under heavy workload and handle complex patient inquiries.
• Strong communication skills and a professional, compassionate demeanor.
• Commitment to adhering to university policies, safeguarding assets, and maintaining HIPAA compliance.
