Patient Access Specialist – On‑Site (Full‑Time)

About the role

The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Clinical Access is seeking a full‑time Patient Access Specialist to coordinate complex duties that support front‑end revenue cycle and clinic functions, directly impacting the patient experience. This on‑site position serves as a functional expert and leads adherence to established policies and procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Obtain, confirm, and enter demographic, financial, and clinical information for financial clearance of scheduled patient accounts.
• Contact patients’ families or physicians’ offices to obtain missing insurance information.
• Verify insurance eligibility and notify patients and referring physicians of any issues.
• Collaborate with scheduling departments to identify add‑on patients and secure necessary authorizations, pre‑certifications, and referrals.
• Notify patients of liabilities prior to the date of service and collect required funds.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation in the system of record.
• Serve as a lead resource for lower‑level Patient Services staff and recommend process improvements.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
• Outstanding interpersonal skills with a commitment to service excellence.
• Capacity to analyze, organize, and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

Required skills

• Data entry proficiency.
• Knowledge of generally accepted accounting procedures and principles.
