Patient Access Specialist – On‑Site, Ft. Lauderdale

About the role

The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Clinical Access is seeking a full‑time Patient Access Specialist to join its Ft. Lauderdale team. In this on‑site role you will support front‑end revenue‑cycle and clinic functions, ensuring a smooth patient experience from pre‑arrival through post‑discharge.

Key responsibilities

• Obtain, verify, and enter demographic, financial, and clinical information for patient accounts.
• Contact patients, families, or physicians to gather missing insurance details.
• Verify insurance eligibility, notify patients and referring physicians of any issues.
• Collaborate with scheduling departments to add‑on patients and secure authorizations, pre‑certifications, and referrals.
• Notify patients of financial liabilities before service dates and collect payments.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation in the system of record.
• Serve as a lead resource for lower‑level Patient Services staff and recommend process improvements.
• Respond to technical inquiries from patients, physicians, and employees via phone, email, fax, or web messages.

Required profile

• Experience in patient access, insurance verification, or front‑end revenue‑cycle functions.
• Ability to work independently under heavy workload and handle complex patient inquiries.
• Strong communication skills and a professional, compassionate demeanor.
• Commitment to HIPAA compliance and safeguarding confidential information.
