Patient Access Specialist – Full Time (On‑Site)

About the role

The University of Miami’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute is seeking a Patient Access Specialist to join its Patient Access department. This on‑site, full‑time position supports front‑end revenue cycle and clinic operations, ensuring a smooth experience for patients, families, and providers.

Key responsibilities

• Obtain, verify, and enter demographic, financial, and clinical data for scheduled patient accounts.
• Contact patients, families, and physicians’ offices to gather missing insurance information.
• Verify insurance eligibility, obtain authorizations, pre‑certifications, and referrals.
• Notify patients of financial liabilities before service dates and collect payments.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation in the system of record.
• Serve as a lead resource for lower‑level patient services staff and recommend process improvements.
• Respond to technical inquiries from patients, physicians, and employees via phone, email, fax, or web messages.
• Uphold professional appearance and adhere to university policies and procedures.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in patient access, insurance verification, or similar front‑office healthcare roles.
• Ability to work independently under a heavy workload and handle complex patient inquiries.
