About the role
The Patient Access Representative 1 serves as the first point of contact for patients arriving for clinical services at the University of Miami’s Plantation location. The role involves registering patients, verifying insurance benefits, collecting payments, and ensuring a welcoming experience.
Key responsibilities
- Perform full patient registration, verify insurance, and collect accurate demographic and financial information.
- Obtain and scan insurance cards, driver’s licenses, referrals, and required consent forms.
- Explain Consent for Treatment, Financial Liability, and HIPAA notices and secure patient signatures.
- Schedule, modify, or cancel appointments and accurately record no‑show information.
- Answer telephone inquiries, triage calls, and provide information or transfer as appropriate.
- Reconcile daily vouchers and cash drawers, delivering them to the designated area.
- Assist patients with self‑service technologies such as MyChart and check‑in kiosks, both in person and remotely.
- Coordinate patient flow from pre‑arrival to discharge using multiple systems.
Required profile
- High school diploma or equivalent; prior experience in a healthcare front‑desk or registration setting preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to handle confidential HIPAA‑protected information.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with patients of all ages and the healthcare team.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced, constantly changing environment.
Required skills
- Proficiency with EPIC MyChart.
- Experience using Grand Central ADT, Cadence, Prelude, Radiant, OP Time, Care Everywhere, Resolute, Nice inContact Communication, and Aria Oncology systems.
