Patient Access Representative – Baton Rouge Region

About the role

The Patient Access Representative greets patients and guests, both by phone and in person, and manages the scheduling, registration, and admission process. The role ensures accurate collection of demographic and insurance information while maintaining confidentiality and supporting point‑of‑service collections.

Key responsibilities

• Create, activate, and complete patient scheduling, clinic registration, or hospital admission, ensuring all required forms are accurate.
• Gather and input patient and guarantor demographic and financial data, explain insurance benefits, and collect co‑pays, deductibles, and self‑pay amounts.
• Perform electronic insurance verification and financial analysis, informing patients of their financial responsibility.
• Balance cash drawer daily, prepare deposit slips, and close out cash at shift end.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s degree preferred.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in a hospital, clinic, medical office, or related customer‑service environment.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and conflict‑resolution skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with other departments and handle high‑stress situations professionally.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Windows‑style applications and data‑entry software.
• Computer skills for retrieving and entering patient information.
• Knowledge of healthcare insurance benefits, payer guidelines, and billing regulations.
