Part‑Time Juvenile Detention Counselor (Night Shift)

About the role

The State of Georgia’s Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking a part‑time Juvenile Detention Counselor to provide structured cognitive‑behavioral and life‑skills group counseling to youth in a detention facility. This night‑shift position supports rehabilitation efforts while maintaining a safe environment.

Key responsibilities

• Facilitate or co‑facilitate cognitive‑behavioral and life‑skills group sessions.
• Document all programmatic activities and maintain accurate case records.
• Conduct daily rounds on the living unit to identify and address youth needs.
• Provide evening and weekend coverage for social, emotional, and behavioral support.
• Assist with admission, orientation, and case management of youth.
• Participate in facility‑wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Preference for degrees in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Forensic Psychology, Rehabilitation Counseling, or related fields.
• One or more years of direct case‑management or counseling experience working with youth is desirable.
