Part-Time SIU Investigator

About the role

Allied Universal is hiring a Special Investigations Unit (SIU) Investigator on a part-time basis in Albany, NY. SIU specialists investigate insurance claims that show signs of fraud, using knowledge of insurance policies and fraud to decide whether a claim should be reported to the appropriate state agency for prosecution. Pay is $27-$32 per hour.

Key responsibilities

• Independently investigate suspected fraudulent insurance claims across workers' compensation, general liability, property and casualty and disability coverages.
• Gather information through data collection, interviews, research and collaboration with other SIU entities, law enforcement and state Departments of Insurance.
• Create and maintain detailed documentation for investigations, file reviews, audits, training tasks and consulting projects.
• Write professional reports, memos and letters that are clear, concise and grammatically correct.
• Run database searches when needed and verify the accuracy of results.
• Develop a strategic plan for each assignment and communicate effectively with clients and the SIU supervisor.

Required profile

• Resides in the state listed in the posting and holds a valid driver's license with at least one year of driving experience.
• Either a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, or a high school diploma or higher with at least five years of professional law enforcement experience focused on fraud investigations.
• Ability to be licensed as a private investigator in the state where work is done, and to complete the Allied Universal training/orientation after the offer.
• At least five years of experience investigating complex insurance claims or adjusting complex claims.
• Knowledge of anti-fraud laws, insurance regulations and compliance standards in the home state and region.
• Flexibility to work varied, irregular hours including weekends and holidays.

Required skills

• Proficiency with laptops and cell phones.
• Typing speed of 40+ words per minute with minimal errors.
• Preferred: military or law enforcement experience, insurance administration experience, familiarity with California SIU regulations, and certifications such as CFE, CIFI, FCLA, FCLS, CPP, AIC or CPCU.
