Part-Time Phlebotomist 3 – UHealth Labs Transition

About the role

The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Pathology seeks a Part‑Time Phlebotomist 3 to draw blood, verify patient records, and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis. This role supports hematology, oncology, and other clinical testing while ensuring patient safety and accurate data entry.

Key responsibilities

• Perform patient phlebotomy following the approved procedure manual.
• Prioritize hematology and oncology specimens.
• Accession, label, and organize pre‑accession specimens for the day.
• Verify patient identification and resolve test‑order questions.
• Maintain inventory, rotate stock, and manage specimen shipping.
• Prepare biohazard containers, handle waste per SOPs, and ensure proper disposal.
• Assist with hardware maintenance (paper, labels, printer ribbons).
• Serve as lead or backup when the supervisor is unavailable.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant phlebotomy experience.
• Current Phlebotomist Certification.
• HIVBLS certification.

Required skills

• Specimen handling and preparation.
• Use of laboratory information systems for accessioning and reporting.
• Inventory management for medical supplies.
