Part-Time Direct Support Professional (Home and Community Based)

About the role

Springbrook, which has provided quality supports and services to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities for over 95 years, is hiring a part-time Direct Support Professional in a home and community-based setting in the Otsego region. You will work with one person at a time, supporting them to achieve their goals and encouraging independence while modelling positive communication, behaviour in social situations and healthy decision-making. The position is eligible for a prorated sign-on bonus.

Key responsibilities

• Act as a role model and advocate for the person(s) you support in all situations and settings
• Be punctual and dependable; regular staff attendance is vital
• With the person(s) you support, observe, discuss and help assess their strengths and opportunities to develop personal goals and plans
• Support choices about goals, activities and how to live their life
• Perform intensive personal care needs (e.g. showering, using the restroom) and supervise the person during those tasks, depending on their needs
• Encourage meaningful ways to spend time and make friends outside the community, such as spiritual activities, recreation and family functions
• Follow written plans, learning materials and goals, and complete required billing documentation
• Maintain training, certifications and knowledge of policies and procedures, attend team meetings and 1:1 meetings with the supervisor, and carry out other duties as assigned

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Experience working with people with developmental disabilities is preferred
• Professional verbal and written communication skills
• Able to lift 50 lbs independently and assist with heavier lifts, perform all physical interventions, and meet the requirements to drive Springbrook vehicles
• Valid driver's license

Required skills

• Proficiency in or knowledge of computer software and e-mail applications, especially Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word, with the aptitude to learn others

What we offer

• $17 per hour for respite (relief care to the caregiver)
• $18 per hour for community habilitation (skill building at home and/or in the community)
• Prorated sign-on bonus eligibility
