Part-Time Cook

About the role

Hilton Garden Inn Merrillville, a 124-room hotel near I-65 with an on-site restaurant, is hiring a part-time cook. The cook prepares food according to recipes and standards while keeping the kitchen safe and sanitary, with a growth path leading to lead cook, sous chef, executive chef and food and beverage director.

Key responsibilities

• Follow recipes to prepare food items and maintain a safe, sanitary work environment
• Wash, peel and cut fruit and vegetables; cut, trim or clean meat
• Prepare appetizers, salads and cold dishes
• Bake, roast, broil and steam meats, fish, vegetables and other foods
• Bake breads, rolls and other baked goods
• Portion, arrange and garnish food for guests
• Maintain clean and sanitized work areas and store food securely
• Follow safe food handling procedures and guest satisfaction guidelines
• Follow sustainability practices related to the hotel's EarthView program and wear protective safety equipment
• Perform other duties as requested by management

Required profile

• High school diploma preferred
• Previous culinary experience or equivalent training required
• A Department of Health Sanitation certificate may be required
• Schedule varies and may include holidays, weekends and alternate shifts
• Ability to stand for long periods, walk, lift up to 50 pounds and bend and reach
