Outreach Retirement Counselor – Georgia

About the role

The State of Georgia is seeking an Outreach Retirement Counselor to travel across the state, deliver presentations and provide one‑on‑one counseling on Teacher Retirement System (TRS) benefit options. The role combines public speaking, customer service and benefits expertise to help members plan for retirement.

Key responsibilities

• Travel at least 50% of the time by car to present and counsel TRS members throughout Georgia.
• Conduct workshops, seminars and individual counseling sessions for new hires, mid‑career employees and pre‑retirees.
• Explain TRS benefits, provide account information and calculate projected monthly benefits.
• Assist members in purchasing additional service credit and prepare cost estimates using the pension administration system.
• Coordinate with employers to schedule, market and deliver events, and train them on TRS policies and procedures.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four‑year college or university.
• Minimum five years of full‑time experience in benefits, banking, accounting, claims processing or finance, with experience interpreting complex regulations.
• Proven ability to deliver detailed presentations to groups of varying size.
• Experience conducting in‑person interviews, counseling sessions or customer‑service interactions.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel weekly across Georgia, including overnight stays.
• Willingness to work occasional overtime, weekends or extended hours as needed.
