Outpatient Clinical Care Assistant / Medical Assistant – Gastroenterology

About the role

The Cleveland Clinic Health System seeks an Outpatient Clinical Care Assistant/Medical Assistant to support gastroenterology patients in a fast‑paced outpatient setting. You will work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Independent Provider, providing direct patient care and assisting with clinical operations.

Key responsibilities

• Perform patient rooming, including vitals, height, weight, intake questions and documentation of abnormal findings.
• Collect specimens, conduct point‑of‑care testing, and prepare samples for the laboratory.
• Assist with exams and procedures such as EKG, Holter monitoring, pulse oximetry, and wound care.
• Maintain exam rooms, stock clinical supplies, monitor expiration dates, and ensure a clean environment.
• Document all patient interactions in the electronic health record and communicate changes in patient condition to the care team.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED with at least one year of recent healthcare experience in an ambulatory or similar setting.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (or obtain within the new‑hire period).
• Understanding of human anatomy, basic patient care activities and medical math.

Required skills

• Point‑of‑care testing and specimen collection.
• Use of EKG, Holter monitor, pulse oximetry, and other diagnostic equipment.
• Electronic health record documentation.
• Basic wound care and application of simple dressings.
