Ordinary Seaman - US Flag Vessel

About the role

Chevron is hiring an Ordinary Seaman for its US Flag seagoing vessels, with the application deadline of November 29, 2026. The position is casual, and the general guideline for vessel assignment length is 90 days for unlicensed personnel; vacation accrues at 25 days for each 30 days of work. The Sailors' Union of the Pacific represents all unlicensed personnel on the Company's US Flag vessels.

Key responsibilities

• Perform manual tasks in the Deck and Steward's Departments
• Clean machinery, bilges, grating, decks, bulkheads and the vessel's hull, including wiping up excess oils and greases
• Clean, chip, scale, wash paint, paint, polish and perform other maintenance work as directed by the ship's officers
• Assist in loading, unloading, stowing and inventorying stores, materials and equipment
• Help with docking and mooring lines and wires, and connect and disconnect cargo hoses
• Carry out general housekeeping in deck and storage areas
• Take part in monthly safety meetings, point out unsafe acts or conditions and stop work when unsafe conditions are found
• Be able to join an Emergency Response team

Required profile

• Current USCG Merchant Mariner Credentials with VPDSD endorsement
• Current USCG medical certificate and valid passport
• Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
• Basic Safety Training certificates
• Ability to work well under pressure, relate effectively to others and maintain an appropriate demeanor and appearance

Pre-employment screening includes a background check, DOT and non-DOT hair drug tests and a physical examination. Relocation is not considered, expatriate assignments are not considered, and the employer cannot sponsor employment visas or consider candidates on time-limited visa status. The anticipated hourly rate is $22.31, depending on skills, experience and qualifications.
