About the role

The University of Miami’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute is seeking a full‑time Ophthalmic Technician – Specialty 2 (H) to perform advanced ophthalmic diagnostic and specialty procedures in Doral, FL. The technician works independently, ensuring accurate testing, efficient patient flow, and high‑quality clinical outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Perform advanced ophthalmic diagnostic tests and specialty procedures specific to the assigned clinical area.
• Operate and maintain specialty ophthalmic equipment, calibrate devices, and troubleshoot technical issues.
• Assist with patient preparation, intra‑procedure support, and post‑procedure care.
• Educate patients on testing, treatments, and follow‑up instructions.
• Review test results for quality, document findings, and communicate them to providers per protocol.
• Coordinate scheduling and patient flow with providers and clinical teams.
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the EMR and adhere to university policies.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• COA certification (or applicable license) required.
• Minimum 4 years of relevant ophthalmic technician experience.
• Demonstrated learning agility, teamwork, and strong written and verbal communication.

Required skills

• Proficiency with ophthalmic diagnostic and specialty‑specific equipment.
• Experience calibrating, troubleshooting, and optimizing equipment workflows.
• Competence in using EMR systems for documentation.
• Ability to operate standard office software and related computer applications.
