About the role

The University of Miami’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Doral, FL is seeking a full‑time Ophthalmic Technician – Specialty 2 (H). The technician independently performs advanced ophthalmic diagnostic and specialty procedures, supporting high‑quality patient care and efficient clinic flow.

Key responsibilities

• Perform advanced ophthalmic diagnostic tests and specialty procedures specific to the assigned clinical area.
• Operate and maintain ophthalmic and specialty‑specific equipment, ensuring accurate and reliable results.
• Assist with procedural preparation, intra‑procedure support, and post‑procedure processes.
• Provide patient education on testing, treatments, and follow‑up care.
• Review test results for quality and completeness and communicate findings to providers.
• Calibrate, troubleshoot, and optimize equipment workflow.
• Coordinate scheduling and patient flow with providers and clinical teams.
• Document accurately and timely in the EMR, adhering to university policies.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent with relevant experience.
• Minimum 4 years of relevant ophthalmic technician experience.
• Current COA certification.
• Strong learning agility to adopt new procedures and technologies.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Required skills

• COA certification.
