About the role

The University of Miami’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute is seeking a full‑time Ophthalmic Technician – Specialty 2 (H) to independently perform advanced ophthalmic diagnostic and specialty procedures in Doral, FL. The role supports high‑quality patient care and efficient clinic workflow.

Key responsibilities

• Perform advanced ophthalmic diagnostic tests and specialty procedures specific to the assigned clinical area.
• Operate and maintain ophthalmic and specialty‑specific equipment, ensuring accurate and reliable results.
• Assist with patient preparation, intra‑procedure support, and post‑procedure care.
• Provide patient education on testing, treatments, and follow‑up.
• Review test results for quality, communicate findings to providers, and document in the EMR.
• Calibrate, troubleshoot, and optimize equipment and workflow.
• Coordinate scheduling and patient flow with providers and clinical teams.
• Adhere to university policies, safeguard assets, and maintain compliance.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent; relevant certification or license preferred.
• Minimum 4 years of relevant ophthalmic technician experience.
• Strong learning agility to adopt new procedures and technologies.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency with ophthalmic diagnostic and specialty equipment.
