About the role
The University of Miami’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Doral, FL is seeking a full‑time Ophthalmic Technician – Specialty 2 (H). The technician will independently perform advanced ophthalmic diagnostic and specialty procedures, supporting high‑quality patient care and efficient clinic flow.
Key responsibilities
- Perform advanced ophthalmic diagnostic tests and specialty procedures specific to the assigned clinical area.
- Operate and maintain specialty ophthalmic equipment, ensuring accurate and reliable results.
- Assist with patient preparation, intra‑procedure support, and post‑procedure care.
- Provide patient education on testing, treatments, and follow‑up.
- Review test results for quality, communicate findings to providers, and document in the EMR.
- Calibrate, troubleshoot, and optimize equipment and workflow.
- Coordinate scheduling and patient flow with providers and clinical teams.
- Maintain compliance with university policies and safeguard assets.
Required profile
- High School Diploma or equivalent with relevant experience.
- Minimum 4 years of ophthalmic technician experience.
- Current COA certification.
- Strong learning agility, teamwork, and communication skills.
Required skills
- COA certification.
- Operation of ophthalmic diagnostic and specialty equipment.
- Proficiency with EMR documentation.
- Competence in office software and related computer applications.
