About the role
The University of Miami’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute is seeking a full‑time Ophthalmic Technician II to provide comprehensive eye‑care support in Palm Beach Gardens. The role involves performing a wide range of clinical tests, documenting findings in the EMR, and assisting providers with patient‑centric care.
Key responsibilities
- Perform and document ocular examinations, including visual fields, intra‑ocular pressure measurements (Goldmann, Tono‑Pen, I‑Care), pachymetry, and refraction.
- Conduct contact lens insertion/removal, visual acuity, color vision, lensometry, stereopsis, and sensorimotor exams.
- Execute automated and manual perimetry, Humphrey and VR visual field testing, and Amsler Grid assessments.
- Prepare patients for intravitreal injections and support virtual‑care encounters.
- Capture ophthalmic imaging such as fundus photos, OCTs, and slit‑lamp examinations.
- Maintain EMR documentation, ensure equipment calibration, and adhere to infection‑control standards.
- Travel to satellite eye centers, work evenings/weekends as needed, and act as a preceptor or lead technician when assigned.
Required profile
- Current JCAHPO certification and willingness to maintain it.
- Strong attention to detail, professionalism, and ability to meet daily productivity goals.
- Flexibility to work varied shifts and travel between sites.
- Commitment to patient confidentiality, safety, and continuous education.
