Ophthalmic Technician II – Full‑Time

About the role

The University of Miami’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute is seeking a full‑time Ophthalmic Technician II to support patient care and clinical research. The role involves performing a wide range of eye‑care tests, documenting findings in the EMR, and assisting providers across multiple eye‑care services.

Key responsibilities

• Perform and document comprehensive ocular examinations, including visual acuity, refraction, visual fields, and ocular motility.
• Measure intraocular pressure using Goldman, Tono‑Pen, and I‑Care devices.
• Insert and remove hard and soft contact lenses and prepare patients for intravitreal injections.
• Capture imaging such as fundus photographs, OCT scans, and slit‑lamp examinations.
• Maintain equipment calibration, ensure infection‑control standards, and stock clinical rooms.
• Travel to satellite eye centers and support virtual‑care encounters as needed.

Required profile

• Current JCAHPO certification and ability to maintain required clinical certifications.
• Experience documenting patient encounters in an electronic medical record system.
• Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and occasional travel.
• Commitment to patient‑centric care, confidentiality, and safety protocols.
