Ophthalmic Technician II – Full-Time (Plantation, FL)

About the role

The University of Miami’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute is seeking a full‑time Ophthalmic Technician II to join its clinical team in Plantation, Florida. The OT2 will support eye‑care providers by performing a wide range of diagnostic tests, documenting patient information in the EMR, and ensuring high‑quality patient‑centric care.

Key responsibilities

• Perform and record clinical tests such as intra‑ocular pressure measurements (Goldman, Tono‑Pen, I‑Care), pachymetry, visual fields, OCT, fundus photography, slit‑lamp exams, and lensometry.
• Document patient history, chief complaint, ocular motility, medication lists, allergies, and other relevant data in the electronic medical record.
• Administer eye drops, insert and remove hard and soft contact lenses, and assist with intravitreal injection preparation.
• Support providers during virtual care encounters, motility exams, and imaging procedures.
• Maintain and calibrate equipment, stock clinical rooms, and travel to satellite eye centers as needed.
• Act as a preceptor, trainer, and super‑user for technology implementations, providing oversight to clinical teams.

Required profile

• Current JCAHPO certification and ability to meet daily productivity goals.
• Commitment to patient confidentiality, infection control, and University of Miami policies.
• Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and travel between sites.
• Experience participating in clinical research and maintaining required certifications.
