Ophthalmic Technician (Full‑Time) – Miami, FL

About the role

The Department of Ophthalmic Clinical Services at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute is seeking a full‑time Ophthalmic Technician 1 to provide patient‑centric eye care in Miami. The role supports providers by performing a wide range of clinical tests, documenting findings in the EMR, and ensuring equipment readiness.

Key responsibilities

• Document patient encounters and support providers during examinations.
• Perform and record intraocular pressure measurements (Goldmann, Tono‑Pen, I‑Care).
• Conduct visual field testing, including Humphrey, automated, manual, VR, and Amsler Grid.
• Carry out pachymetry, lensometry, visual acuity, color vision, stereopsis, and refraction assessments.
• Prepare patients for intravitreal injections (IVI) and assist with motility exams.
• Maintain and calibrate clinical equipment, stock exam rooms, and travel to satellite eye centers as needed.
• Support virtual care encounters and adhere to infection‑control and patient‑safety protocols.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least one year of relevant ophthalmic or clinical experience.
• Ability to work with patients of all ages and maintain confidentiality.
• Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and occasional travel.

Required skills

• Proficiency with EMR documentation.
