About the role

The University of Miami’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute is seeking a Per Diem Ophthalmic Technician 2 – Specialty to join its Doral clinic. This position independently performs advanced ophthalmic diagnostic and specialty procedures, supporting high‑quality patient care and efficient clinic flow.

Key responsibilities

• Perform advanced ophthalmic diagnostic tests and specialty procedures in the assigned clinical area.
• Operate and maintain ophthalmic and specialty‑specific equipment, ensuring accurate and reliable results.
• Assist with patient preparation, intra‑procedure support, and post‑procedure care.
• Provide patient education on testing, treatments, and follow‑up instructions.
• Review test results for quality, communicate findings to providers, and document in the EMR.
• Calibrate, troubleshoot, and optimize equipment workflow.
• Coordinate scheduling and patient flow with providers and clinical teams.
• Adhere to university policies, safeguard assets, and maintain compliance.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent; relevant experience, certification, or license.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Minimum 4 years of relevant ophthalmic or clinical experience.
• Demonstrated learning agility and ability to adapt to new procedures and technologies.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Proficiency with office software and relevant computer applications.

Required skills

• Ophthalmic diagnostic equipment operation.
• Electronic Medical Record (EMR) documentation.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
