Ophthalmic Technician 2 – Full‑Time

About the role

The Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami is seeking a full‑time Ophthalmic Technician 2 to support patient care and clinical research. You will work directly with ophthalmologists, performing a wide range of eye‑care tests and documenting results in the electronic medical record (EMR).

Key responsibilities

• Perform and record comprehensive eye examinations, including visual acuity, refraction, visual fields, and ocular motility.
• Measure intraocular pressure using Goldman, Tono‑Pen, and I‑Care tonometers.
• Insert and remove hard and soft contact lenses, administer eye drops, and conduct pachymetry.
• Capture imaging such as fundus photography, OCT, and slit‑lamp exams.
• Prepare patients for intravitreal injections and support virtual‑care encounters.
• Maintain equipment calibration, stock clinical rooms, and travel to satellite eye centers as needed.
• Serve as a lead technician, training new staff and acting as a super‑user for technology implementations.

Required profile

• Current JCAHPO certification and ability to maintain it.
• Experience documenting patient encounters in an EMR system.
• Commitment to patient‑centric care, confidentiality, and infection‑control standards.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and occasional travel.
