Ophthalmic Technician 2 – Full Time (Palm Beach Gardens)

About the role

The University of Miami’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute is seeking a full‑time Ophthalmic Technician 2 to support patient care in Palm Beach Gardens. The OT2 will perform a wide range of eye‑care tests, document findings in the EMR, and assist providers with clinical and research activities.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct visual field testing, intra‑ocular pressure measurements (Goldmann, Tono‑Pen, I‑Care), pachymetry, and ocular surface assessments.
• Document patient encounters, chief complaints, medication histories, and exam results in the electronic medical record.
• Prepare patients for intravitreal injections and perform imaging such as fundus photography, OCT, and slit‑lamp exams.
• Assist with contact lens insertion/removal, manual refraction, and visual acuity testing.
• Support virtual‑care encounters, act as a super‑user for technology implementations, and train new clinical staff.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Minimum two years of relevant ophthalmic clinical experience.
• Professional appearance, strong communication skills, and ability to work both independently and in a team.

Required skills
