Ophthalmic Technician 2 – Full Time

About the role

The University of Miami’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute is seeking a full‑time Ophthalmic Technician 2 to support patient care and clinical research in its Miami eye clinics. The OT2 will perform a wide range of eye‑care tests, document findings in the EMR, and assist providers with procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Perform and document clinical tests such as visual acuity, lensometry, manual refraction, visual fields (Humphrey, VR, Amsler, tangent), ocular motility, pupillary evaluation, pachymetry, and intra‑ocular pressure measurements (Goldman, Tono‑Pen, I‑Care).
• Insert and remove hard and soft contact lenses, administer eye drops, and conduct imaging (fundus photography, OCT, slit‑lamp exams).
• Prepare patients for intravitreal injections, support virtual‑care encounters, and travel to satellite eye centers as needed.
• Maintain equipment calibration, stock clinical rooms, and ensure compliance with infection‑control and patient‑privacy regulations.
• Assist with training, onboarding, and act as a super‑user for new technology implementations.

Required profile

• Proficiency in ophthalmic theory, principles, and practice.
• Current JCAHPO certification and ability to meet daily productivity goals.
• Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and travel between sites.
• Commitment to ongoing education and participation in clinical research.
