Ophthalmic Technician 1 – Per Diem

About the role

The University of Miami’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute is seeking a Per Diem Ophthalmic Technician 1 to support patient care in its Miami clinic. The role involves performing a wide range of eye‑care tests, documenting findings in the EMR, and assisting providers during examinations and procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct visual acuity, refraction, lensometry, and various visual field tests (Humphrey, VR, Amsler Grid, tangent screen).
• Measure intra‑ocular pressure using Goldman, Tono‑Pen, and I‑Care devices and perform pachymetry.
• Document patient history, medications, allergies, and exam results in the electronic medical record.
• Assist with intravitreal injection preparation, contact lens insertion/removal, and imaging studies such as OCT and fundus photography.
• Support virtual‑care visits by preparing equipment and ensuring connectivity.
• Maintain equipment calibration, stock supplies, and travel to satellite eye centers as needed.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent with at least one year of relevant ophthalmic experience.
• Professional appearance, strong interpersonal communication, and ability to work independently or in a team.
• Attention to detail, ability to meet productivity goals, and adherence to patient‑safety and confidentiality standards.
