Ophthalmic Technician 1 – Full‑Time (Miami, FL)

About the role

The University of Miami’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute is seeking a full‑time Ophthalmic Technician 1 to join its clinical team in Miami. The OT1 provides comprehensive eye‑care testing, documentation, and patient support in accordance with department standards.

Key responsibilities

• Perform and document clinical tests such as visual fields, intra‑ocular pressure measurements, pachymetry, lensometry, and manual refraction.
• Administer eye drops, insert and remove hard and soft contact lenses, and prepare patients for intravitreal injections.
• Maintain accurate records in the EMR system, including reason for visit, chief complaint, ocular history, and medication information.
• Support providers with charting, equipment calibration, and inventory management.
• Travel to satellite eye centers, work evenings/weekends as needed, and assist with virtual‑care encounters.
• Participate in clinical research and attend required ophthalmic training.

Required profile

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Competence in basic ophthalmic theory and practice.
• Ability to follow University of Miami policies, patient‑safety protocols, and confidentiality standards.
