Ophthalmic Technician 1 – Full‑Time

About the role

The University of Miami’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute is seeking a full‑time Ophthalmic Technician 1 to support eye‑care providers in a fast‑paced clinical environment. The role involves performing a wide range of diagnostic tests, documenting patient encounters in the EMR, and ensuring high‑quality patient‑centric care.

Key responsibilities

• Document patient visits, chief complaints, and clinical findings in the electronic medical record.
• Perform ocular measurements such as intraocular pressure (Goldmann, Tono‑Pen, I‑Care), pachymetry, lensometry, and visual acuity.
• Conduct visual field testing, including Humphrey, automated, manual, and virtual‑reality modalities.
• Prepare patients for intravitreal injections and assist with contact lens insertion/removal.
• Support virtual‑care encounters and ensure equipment calibration and maintenance.
• Travel to satellite eye centers and work evenings or weekends as needed.
• Participate in clinical research and maintain required certifications.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least one year of relevant ophthalmic or clinical experience.
• Professional appearance and ability to work with patients of all ages.
• Commitment to patient confidentiality, safety, and infection‑control standards.
