About the role
The University of Miami’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute is seeking a full‑time Ophthalmic Diagnostic Technician (ODT1) to perform a wide range of ocular diagnostic tests and support eye care providers. The role involves direct patient interaction, accurate documentation in the EMR, and adherence to clinical standards.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct and document ocular measurements such as intraocular pressure (Goldman, Tono‑Pen, I‑Care) and pachymetry.
- Perform imaging procedures including OCT, fundus photography, fluorescein and ICG angiography, and B‑scan ultrasonography.
- Execute visual field testing (automated, manual, Humphrey, VR, Amsler Grid, tangent screen).
- Assist with contact lens insertion/removal, manual refraction, lensometry, and ocular motility examinations.
- Maintain EMR entries for patient history, allergies, medications, and exam findings.
- Prepare instruments, calibrate equipment, and ensure infection‑control protocols.
- Support providers during examinations, travel to satellite eye centers, and work evenings or weekends as needed.
Required profile
- Current staff, faculty, or temporary employee of the University of Miami (internal applicants use Workday).
- Competent knowledge of eye‑care theory, principles, and clinical practice.
- Commitment to patient‑centric care, confidentiality, and university policies.
- Willingness to attend ongoing ophthalmic training and participate in clinical research.
