Operator I – Sludge & Water Treatment

About the role

The Operator I is responsible for operating and maintaining sludge dewatering and water‑treatment equipment at a refinery/industrial facility. The role ensures that water is purified to meet customer specifications while adhering to safety and quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and maintain pumps, engines, centrifuges, generators, valves, gates, mixers, conveyors, blowers and dryers.
• Control chemical feed, odor‑control, disinfection and sludge‑processing filters, including belt presses.
• Perform testing and material‑handling tasks using appropriate measuring and control devices.
• Utilize computer‑based process control programs to monitor and adjust operations.
• Respond to 24‑hour emergency on‑call rotations as required.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED; related experience preferred.
• Ability to read, write and comprehend English operational and safety instructions.
• Basic mathematical skills and teamwork orientation.
• Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.
• Pass a drug test and criminal background check.

Required skills

• Operation of pumps, engines, centrifuges, generators, valves and mixers.
• Handling of conveyors, blowers, dryers, chemical feed and odor‑control systems.
• Use of disinfection equipment, sludge processing filters and belt presses.
• Proficiency with process‑control software and testing equipment.
