Operating Room Assistant – Full‑Time

About the role

The Operating Room Assistant supports the surgical team by maintaining a clean, safe, and well‑stocked environment in the operating suites. This full‑time position reports to the Nurse Manager or Charge Nurse and works closely with ancillary departments to ensure compliance with hospital policies.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness of operating rooms, including dusting vents, surface disinfection, mopping, sweeping, and buffing.
• Clean and disinfect floors, walls, and horizontal surfaces according to infection‑control schedules.
• Collect soiled linen in closed bags and transport to laundry receptacles.
• Assist with patient positioning and safe transport when directed.
• Handle regular and biohazard waste in accordance with Universal Protocol.
• Perform terminal cleaning and ensure timely room turnovers with proper set‑up.
• Handle surgical specimens promptly and support the needs of the surgical team.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Detail‑oriented with the ability to follow through on assigned tasks.
• Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, push, pull, and lift for extended periods.
• Normal visual acuity and hearing (or use of adaptive devices) for safety monitoring.
• Willingness to work with various cleaning chemicals and equipment.

Required skills

• Operation of floor scrubbers and use of approved cleaning solutions.
• Knowledge of cleaning and disinfecting procedures for surgical environments.
• Competence in handling biohazard waste and adhering to Universal Protocol.
• Specimen handling and safe patient transport techniques.
