About the role
The University of Miami Health System is seeking a full‑time Occupational Therapist III – Specialist to deliver evidence‑based rehabilitation services in Miami, FL. The role involves comprehensive patient evaluation, care planning, and participation in program development within an academic medical center.
Key responsibilities
- Demonstrate clinical reasoning to synthesize evaluation data, identify diagnoses, and develop comprehensive care plans.
- Develop and update measurable care plans in collaboration with patients and families, considering age and lifestyle.
- Select and administer appropriate assessment and treatment techniques, including age‑appropriate competency evaluations.
- Follow and revise intervention protocols as needed, discharging patients when goals are met.
- Provide patient and family education tailored to readiness and emotional status.
- Collect and record departmental data accurately and timely.
- Communicate with physicians and staff, suggesting treatment revisions when appropriate.
- Maintain productivity standards and adjust schedules for clinical emergencies.
- Participate in quality‑improvement, program development, and educational activities.
- Mentor residents and students, supporting the department’s educational mission.
Required profile
- Doctoral (or Master’s) degree in Occupational Therapy.
- Current licensure in Occupational Therapy.
- Minimum 7–10 years of relevant clinical experience, including acute‑care rotations.
- Board certification or specialty certification (ABPTS, AOTA, or equivalent).
- Clinical Instructor certification with at least 640 hours of student instruction.
- Experience presenting educational material and participating in research or community outreach.
Required skills
- Proficiency with treatment equipment such as walkers, crutches, canes, wheelchairs, lift devices, hospital beds, and commodes.
- Use of clinical tools including goniometers, traction units, ultrasound machines, electrical stimulation devices, iontophoresis units, vasopneumatic pumps, cuff and pulley weights, and isokinetic exercise equipment.
